Introducing VGbeat reviews!

E-mail Print PDF

As the world's largest database of music & rhythm games - with nearly 2000 artists providing 4000 songs across 100 games - we at VGbeat are some of the biggest authorities on this particular genre of video games.

What better way is there to share our knowledge and expertise than by providing reviews from dedicated experts?  Starting today, we're launching VGbeat reviews with a selection of 4 reviews from the Rock Band & Guitar Hero franchises, including the just-released Green Day: Rock Band.  We'll be expanding our review database to cover our huge back catalog of games in the near future.

You can check these reviews out here or via the new Reviews tab at the top of the site.  We'll be integrating these reviews across the rest of the site shortly so that you can see what we think of a game while checking out its soundtrack.

We hope these reviews are something everyone can use, from the casual gamer playing on easy at parties to the hardcore expert player uploading their gameplay prowess to the internet.

Miley Cyrus - Can't Be TamedThis week in Rock Band DLC hits the other end of the spectrum from last week's Ozzy pack. Pop sensation Miley Cyrus is coming with a five-pack of songs, including "Can't Be Tamed" off her new album and "7 Things" from her 2008 album Breakout. It's not a party in the USA quite yet, but it's a good start. More details, including track list and pricing, after the jump.

Keyboard, songs for Rock Band 3 revealed!

E-mail Print PDF

Rock Band 3As E3 approaches, more details about the upcoming Rock Band 3, due out holiday 2010, are beginning to trickle out. An interview with Alex Rigopulos, Harmonix CEO, done by USA Today reveals more details about the keyboard peripheral and the rumored "pro mode", as well as the first several songs. According to Rigopulos, the keyboard peripheral will have 25 keys, with only five being used at any given moment in standard gameplay. In Rock Band 3's pro mode, the player will need to use all 25 keys, with the highway shifting to the left and right to display more gems. The peripheral itself is a fully functional MIDI controller that can easily be used to help players make the jump into playing real music. The same interview reports a special, full-size Fender guitar for pro mode and one other guitar peripheral for which details are still unknown.

Harmonix also released details on the song list. Rock Band 3 will include 83 songs. Some of the bigger names appearing on the disc include Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and The Doors' "Break On Through", but the 22 songs that have been revealed are all impressive. The song list as we know it is after the jump.
